Great Rack, worth the money

We have a Radmini and a Radmini Step-Thru so we were looking for rack that could take the weight. The bikes fold but it was quite a struggle to get them in the storage of our RV and they took up most of the rear pass thru. As I researched racks I first found the Swagman E-Spec and learned that there were "RV approved racks". I did find that there were 2 E-Spec in stock from a North American Rack seller but they wouldn't ship it from their British Columbia store to Ontario. In hindsight I am glad they wouldn't. After further research for RV Approved racks I found Hollywood Racks. I read the history on the about page and liked what I found. The HR1500 is rated for a higher load giving us more breathing room with our 67 and 69 lb bikes and the added security cable was a bonus. I put myself on the notify list and ordered my HR1500 within an hour of receiving the email. The rack arrived in Ontario Canada 5 days after I ordered it. It cost about $140 more after currency conversion and shipping but it is money well spent. I have only tested it on the back of our pickup so far but so good. The only thing missing from Hollywood is bike bag.

The very best rack for heavy eBikes with a long wheelbase

I had initially purchased a Thule Easy Fold XT2 which was supposed to fit my eBike. Not even close. The wheel wells were far too narrow, not wide enough for a 4” tire and neither was it long enough, it was next to impossible to load and secure the bike onto the platform when it was attached to the hitch, even with two people. Someone on an eBike forum I followed suggested the Hollywood Sport Rider Rack for eBikes. Near impossible to find in Canada, so was going to order from the Hollywood Racks site directly, but Jen in customer service assisted me with finding a supplier in Alberta that had two racks available and I promptly ordered one. (Excellent customer service from Hollywood Racks as well - 5 stars). The rack arrived. It is a heavy beast, but one person can manage attaching it to the hitchon their own. Highly recommended to assemble the hitch carrier off your vehicle’s hitch to make assembly easy. Assembly is straight forward and simple. I was impressed at how robust everything was compared to the Thule which had more plastic. The Hollywood HR1500 is all steel construction and it looks and feels solid. The built in hitch tightening system snugs up the rack to the hitch so there is ZERO movement or sway when moving. The wheel holders are very generous and amply sized to hold the fattest of fat tires. The frame hooks racket down and do a superb job of holding the bike in place. The upgraded wheel straps (from velcro in previous year model) which are now ratchet straps are easy to apply and remove. They’ve been designed so that they hang out of the way when loading the bike and you are not having to fight to get the straps out from under the tire when the bike is loaded. Genius design and nice touch, no folding them or securing them. They stay out of the way until you are ready to apply them. I have a Toyota FJ with a rear door mounted tire and I was initially worried that the tire would protrude out too far to allow the placement of the inside bike, but this isn’t a problem at all. Plenty of clearance for the tire. Because the door of the vehicle swings out, I can’t open the rear door, but this is a non-issue for me and that’s a vehicle issue, not a rack issue. The rack is perfect. So happy to have purchased the Hollywood Sport Rider HR1500!

It’s so well built the gives confidence. While the no wobble works there is play in the horizontal part which I mistook for hitch wobble but that’s ok.

This does require a deep receiver so if you have a shorter depth receiver I don’t think it would fit.

Sliding the wheel adjusters is indeed hard!

One idea is put small wheels on the horizontal bar to aid moving it. I may try rigging some myself.

Sport Rider HR1500 Taillights

Great rack, very sturdy and well-made, easy to use. With our two bikes on the rack, the taillights on our vehicle are somewhat obstructed. I added a pair of trailer stop/turn/running lights and wiring harness to the rack. Hollywood should offer an optional taillight kit for customers who want or need one.
